The Taste of Others (2000)
Jean-Pierre Bacri is outstanding in this quicky French romantic comedy as the protagonist, a factory owner who falls in love with an actress. The actress is friends with a drug dealing barmade who starts going out with one of Bacri's bodyguards. Bacri's wife and her dog, and a couple of gay artists plus a few more realted friends als have interesting parts to play.
The comparison to Allen is fair, as it certainly has a lot in common with some of his more easy-going relationship based comedies.
Most importantly of all i enjoyed the film; the director's movement and placing of the camera seemed proficient considering it was her debut, and the story tied everyone together nicely and logically.
It's not a masterpice by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a good film for those interested in contemporary continental cinema; also comparable perhaps is Ozon's 8 Women.

I enjoyed this film when it was first released - actually saw it in a real cinema! It's a kind of 'Educating Rita' scenario done in French. I'd score it slightly higher than you, perhaps giving it 8/10.
